Elderberry is the dark purple berry from the European elder tree or Sambucus tree, which is a flowering plant belonging to the Adoxaceae family. Elderberry is one of the most commonly used plants in the world.

In ancient times evidence of Elderberry cultivation dates back to the neolithic pole dwellings of Switzerland circa 2000 BC. It is known to have been used in ancient times in North America, Asia, Africa, and throughout Europe. Pliny the Elder and Hippocrates both expounded upon its qualities and it was prized by Native Americans.

The berries are full of flavonoids that are known for their benefits to the immune system. Elderberries have a naturally occuring Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Iron, Potassium, an Vitamin B6.
